Peridot
In ancient times, peridot was associated with the sun, whose rays gave life and dispelled the mysteries of the darkness. Today, those who wear peridot are said to be "glad of heart."
St. John's Island is still the major source of the finest peridot, although mining there is sporadic.
Peridot is the birthstone for August.
